World Stencils provides free PNG files only. Download the PNG from a design page, then use suitable software to prepare another format if your project needs it. SVG, DXF, PDF and JPG files are not included with the free download.
PNG: your starting artwork
A PNG is an image made of pixels. You can print it for hand cutting, use it as a tracing reference, or import it into software that accepts images. Keep the original download as your master copy. Enlarging a small image too far can make its edges look soft.
A PNG does not contain vector cutting paths. Before using a cutting machine, check what your software accepts and whether you need to trace the artwork.
SVG: trace the image into paths
To create a vector SVG, import the PNG into a vector editor or compatible cutting software and trace its shapes. Adjust the trace settings, remove unwanted specks and inspect small details. Simply saving a PNG inside an SVG file does not turn the image into vector paths.
For a reusable stencil, check that enclosed areas have bridges so the parts you want to keep stay connected. Confirm the final size and remove duplicate cutting lines.
DXF: export prepared vector artwork
If your machine's software needs DXF, trace and clean up the artwork first, then export it from software that supports DXF. Check the imported units, scale and closed paths in your cutting software. Different applications can interpret the same file differently.
PDF or JPG: prepare an image for printing or sharing
You can place the PNG on an A4 or US Letter page and export a PDF in a document or image editor. Choose your intended print size and check the printer's scaling settings. Creating a PDF does not automatically make the artwork a vector or a cutting file.
You can also export a JPG when an application requires it. JPG does not preserve transparency and uses compression, so keep the original PNG for future edits.
Test before making the final piece
Choose the format your software and machine support, check the artwork at its final size, and make a small test before cutting your final material. Converting formats does not change the license: these free designs remain for personal, non-commercial use.
